Why There Is a Rise in Experiential Getaways Near Mumbai

It starts with a WhatsApp message.

“Guys, we need a break.”

Someone suggests Lonavala. Someone else says Alibaug. Someone sends a resort link. Within ten minutes, everyone has agreed on a place.

And then comes the most important question:

“Okay, but what are we actually going to do there?”

Because somewhere along the way, a weekend getaway stopped being just about getting away.

We want the good room, of course. But we also want the long breakfast, the game that gets unnecessarily competitive, the afternoon spent doing something we’ve never tried before, the dinner that goes on for hours, and maybe a little time where nobody checks their phone.

That is where experiential getaways come in.

We’re not just booking a stay anymore

Think about the last time you really enjoyed a trip.

Chances are, you don’t remember the room number.

You remember the things that happened.

The meal everyone still talks about. The unexpected activity. The evening you spent laughing with friends. The morning you woke up without an alarm. The tiny moment that somehow became the highlight of the whole trip.

Travel writer Pico Iyer puts it beautifully: “We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next, to find ourselves.”

And perhaps that is why the idea of an experiential getaway feels so relevant today.

We want to come back with a story, not just a hotel bill.

So, what makes a getaway experiential?

It doesn’t have to be a grand adventure.

Sometimes, it is simply having enough around you to make the weekend your own.

You might spend the morning doing something active, lose track of time over lunch, try your hand at a new game in the afternoon, take some time to unwind, and end the day with good food and even better company.

Or you might do absolutely none of that.

You could just sit outside with a coffee and realise you haven’t looked at your phone for an hour.

That counts too.

Why are short getaways becoming so appealing?

Because we don’t always have the time for a holiday.

A two-day break is much easier to plan than a week-long trip. You don’t need to coordinate flights, take too many days off or spend half your holiday travelling.

You just need to leave the city.

And that’s where places like Karjat make sense.

There’s greenery, open space and, most importantly, room to do things differently.

The stay is becoming part of the experience

There’s an interesting shift happening here.

The place you stay at is no longer just where you sleep between sightseeing plans. Increasingly, it is becoming part of the reason you travel in the first place.

In fact, Booking.com’s 2025 India travel report found that 80% of Indian travellers planned to spend most of their holiday time at their accommodation.

And honestly, it makes sense.

If you’re going away for just a weekend, you want the place itself to give you something to look forward to.

Experience your getaway at Oleander Farms

This is the idea behind a stay at Oleander Farms.

You could come here for the stay and let the rest of the weekend unfold around it.

Maybe it starts with a meal at one of the restaurants and a slow coffee later. Maybe you spend some time at the yoga studio, book yourself a little time at the spa and salon, or challenge your friends to a game at Let’s Play or a round of pickleball and paddle.

Maybe you browse through the little retail spaces, pick up some flowers or plants, get something for the kids, grab some popcorn and head back to your room.

Or maybe you do none of it.

And that is the beauty of an experiential getaway.

You don’t have to follow an itinerary. You just need to have enough experiences around you to make the weekend feel like yours.

And sometimes, that can simply mean two days that feel completely different from the other five.

And perhaps that is what we’re really looking for when we say,

“Guys, we need a break.”
